My yoga journey

Beginning
My journey with yoga began at the age of 39. My body made me realize that I need to pay attention to it. I had low blood pressure, knee pains, thyroid imbalance and constant tiredness. I would be awake on some nights due to anxiety attacks.

I went to Tirupati from Dubai in 2014, July to be with my Mother. I met a neighbor who was attending yoga sessions with a therapist for her health issues. I started with attending these sessions, it was so beautiful that i started attending twice a day. On observing my zeal, teacher Srinivas suggested that i do the complete course of Yoga therapy at the Rashtriya Samskrit Vidhyapeeta. I took up the one year P.G Diploma course with them. Registered and got the material. I carried my material back to Dubai in august 2014.

My Journey with my Guruji K.B Madhavan at Dubai.

Looking for solutions, talking to friends, I came across a Yoga Guru K.B Madhavan ( whom I am still in touch with )back in Dubai.
I would attend his sessions at the Deira creek every Friday and Saturday morning.
He has the knowledge of Ayurveda, yoga practice of 25 years and naturopathy. He helped me with my knee pain after which I could walk for 2 km, could sit in padmasana by the end of 6 months.
I met him for a brief time between September and March. But my journey of recovery was very beautiful and good. I had a bad posture, my stomach was loose from my pregnancies, waist about 36 inches. Yoga and few naturopathy treatments by Guruji helped me in my flexibilty, immunity and mainly confidence of self. I felt like a flower blooming. He had started a group called "The friends of Yoga" at about 21 centres all around UAE at parks every morning. These groups teach free. My journey continues with my Guruji. I keep in touch with him and take his guidance for myself and on teaching some of my students where i have doubts.

My Journey at Rashtriya Samskrit Vidhyapeeta Tirupati.

I attended my first 15 day in-house session of yoga at Rashtriya Samskrit vidhyapeetham from 24 th of December to 9th of January. It was an intense program starting at 6 am and ending at 6:30 pm. The course involved the learning Samskrit, samkhya yoga, Bhakti yoga, dhyana yoga, human anatomy, Yoga sutras and Ayurveda. It was so beautiful like an awakening ... The teachers are so dedicated and compassionate, present to teach ,answer and guide. We used to have asana and kriya sessions twice a day. Learnt vamana dhauti, vastra dhauti ( yet to completely master, my journey is still on ), Jala neti ,Sutra neti. I had headaches , throat infections all guidance and healing happened through a non invasive method, no medications, only pranayama and i was healed..  To name some of my wonderful teachers at the University .
  1. Satyanarayana sir who made the yoga sutras simple to understand.
  2. Jyothi madam, her compassion, her self journey and her stories inspire me even today. She was always before time for class and would wait patiently, entered the class without footwear.
  3. Our Ayurveda teacher about how stress and thoughts affected our body, organs and how our body functions, it was a beautiful class. he took us through yoga Nidra sessions. His journey with his gurus and his time spent at the Bihar school of Yoga.
  4. Sunita madam, who taught us Samskrit from scratch, reprimanding us in motherly way.We learnt to chant the beautiful 12 th chapter of Bhakti yoga.
  5. Finally our wonderful teacher Rajendra reddy sir, who put together this course so that we could all benefit, taught us the history of yoga, the agamas and the present principles and practices . Introduced us theoretically to what all is there in the scope of yoga , scriptures, kundalini yoga and so much more..Today he treats so many through yoga therapy, understands nadis, vata pitta kapha .. He has setup so many programs at the university at nominal prices to treat people with diabetes, thyroid, arthritis and so many more. I keep in touch with him to help me help my students better.

I went for my second session of yoga in the month of April- May.
I thank my husband Venu for his endless support. I also thank my In-laws who made my session successful by supporting me and taking care of our children so that i could focus on yoga and complete the same. I thank my mother who gave me fresh meals during my practice at Tirupati.

My journey also includes on how to eat , what and when. I will talk about it some other time.

I made a lot of friends at a local park near my house at Karama, Dubai.I ended up sharing my learning from my Gurus. It was so difficult to leave Dubai by the end of march... But my relationship with these wonderful people continues.

KEERAI KOOTU ( Recipe serves 5 ) Keerai kootu as it is called in Tamil nadu got my fancy as its tasty and is nature cure compliant. An easy to make and a very tasty rich dish, can be eaten with millets/ rice or vegetable dosa or even a vegetable chappati. Indegenious rice like Rajamudi rice,Thoyamali rice tastes very good. Keerai or Greens can be anything like Palak, Amaranthus Vareities ( Sirri keerai, Thandu keerai, Arrai Keerai ), Ceylon spinach. Take 200 ml water in a pot boil well. Simple hair care

Aa.... A topic that is so touchy for many. I remember as a child my parents telling me the best way to take care of your hair is apply coconut oil and wash with Reetha / Shikkakai. I was like mom what do you understand the pains of combing the hair.. Hair is so frizzy and the struggles went on to breaking and hair thinning etc...  Went on to try the so called so many conditioners... I noticed it helped temporarily and definately did not feel good by the 2nd day ... 😏  Finally came to a point of balding. Tried even the onion juice , hair creams and infused oils, and lastly tried out even the ayurvedic brands like vedix. etc... All these trials made me think more ... In these trials I understood self made hair creams worked ... Reetha and shikkai worked ... But how much care do we need for the scalp and hair I went on to experiment... And the following helped... Will explain the why and the science behind it too... 1) Being on the nature cure way of life helped as we eat ...
